Fright Night- Annual Halloween Event PDF E-mail
Ok, so I expected a cute little set up with the promised music and bonfire and a "scary" haunted trek through the woods… I did NOT expect the completely professional and AWESOME Event that is…. FRIGHT NIGHT.  poppy08  ~
The boy bugged me for a week about going to the most “beast” even for Halloween in Ashburn- Fright Night at the Community Church (the huge church off of Ashburn Rd and Rt. 7.)  I assumed it was just hype, and that I would find him with his arms crossed over his chest, rolling his eyes at what turned out to be a lame-o haunted house for babies. WRONG.

When I showed up to pick him up (he went with his buddy and his parents,) nothing prepared me for what I saw in that field: lots of staff monitoring parking, the parking lot (I presume for teens trying to take advantage of the darkness…) and the entrance to the festivities. Adult and teens working together to create a fun, exciting atmosphere that offered loads of freedom to make the kids feel cool, and enough supervision to make parents feel comfortable.

The deejay was pumping clean-lyric pop music with some Christian jams thrown into the mix, The Munsters and Addam’s Family (I can’t tell those shows apart!) silently played on a huge screen overhead adding some creep to the atmosphere. Hay bales and picnic tables were filled with middle school and high school kids in their little packs- hanging, flirting, and oh-my-gawding, and the bonfire was massive- surrounded by parents and more happy, partying kids.

What a fabulous set up! Concessions were so well organized that I barely saw a line; friendly faces eager to assist you were everywhere, and the peals of laughter and positive vibe in the air gave no indication that these kids were in for the fright of their LIVES when their group was called to go through the haunted woods...

The hayrack ride transports thrill seekers out to the haunted woods. Once there, they wind their way through pitch black, deserted houses and abandoned caverns filled with teenaged ghouls and undead. This is NOT my bag baby- I get no thrill from being scared. But The Boy came back practically unable to speak- he was so glad to be alive and had never been that scared in his whole life! (Yeah, 11 whole years…) He and his friends babbled on for hours about how awesome it was.

As a mom, I was beyond impressed with the organization and set up here. It was exactly the kind of thing I did not have as a kid- and I am so glad the Ashburn offers this kind of clean, positive, church youth group run activity for our kids to attend. You HAVE to check this out at Halloween- without a doubt-
