I’m not a girly-girl, but as the big 4-0 creeps closer, I’ve become more aware of a need to take better care of my skin to avoid a need for Botox. Perfect timing for me to stroll past and then into Rouge Spa in Leesburg…
What a lovely boutique! I was surprised that it wasn’t plagued by a cacophony of fragrances fighting each other for space in my nose, which would have driven me right back out the door. It smelled clean and pure. Rouge is bright with gorgeous displays of interesting skin care, health, fragrance and beauty products. Some were old-world European, others were chic and trendy, and there were even product lines for men.
Toward the rear of the boutique is a surprisingly large spa, offering full services from massages to facials, hot salt body rubs, manicures, make up artistry, waxing- whatever you desire to relax and rejuvenate. I can imagine bridal parties being pampered here, or maybe even a group of ladies celebrating someone’s 40th birthday with a day of beauty followed by a toast at the Wine Kitchen! I’ll keep that in mind when my turn comes… YEARS from now. Ok, YEAR from now. Sigh…
Anyway. It was so nice not to be assaulted by overeager saleswomen directing you toward the most expensive and likely unnecessary products, but rather, a subdued, professional lady acknowledged my presence, kept a comfortable distance yet made it clear she was happy to assist me. Thank you! Part of why I hate shopping is the intrusive, pressure-to-buy environment of many shops. The service here was unobtrusive, friendly, and for MY pleasure, not theirs.
I was drawn to a display of body butters by Mediterranean Spa. Constantly slathering on lotion to get rid of that papery feeling was really a drag, as was the cracked-alligator look that crept onto my legs and arms by midday. The cream is organic and natural- no crazy colors or fragrances, just gentle essences such as of citrus, olive oil and papaya. Aaah…
A touch of the tester on the back of my hand was all I needed to know that I HAD to have this stuff for my whole body! The light olive oil scent mingled well with my body chemistry (I did try one other butter that just smelled wrong on me), and it was so concentrated that a dab the size of a dime was more than enough for both hands. I’ve used it daily for a month and it still looks like a brand new jar. It stays on all day so I no longer look like I have an unhealthy obsession with moisturizing, and my skin is- according to The Man- “soft as warm buttah!”
Rouge Spa is located on King Street in the heart of Leesburg. I think because it looks so upscale, some people may be under the impression that it’s an overpriced foofy place, and they couldn’t be more wrong. It’s delightful and charming. The prices are reasonable given the quality of the ingredients. I’ll pay a little more now not to have to repurchase in a month and to have the product actually keep my skin feeling and looking marvelous. My visit was definitely time and money well-spent, and I’m sure I’ll return because~
