| Shoe’s Cup & Cork Club~ Cafe & Coffee Shop |

The Man and I spotted Shoe’s Cup & Cork Club on its opening day, July 3rd, 2009, glanced at it the next night after enjoying the fireworks at Ida Lee, and finally had to check it out on our quest for a casual breakfast Sunday morning... DAILY SPECIALS WITHIN.... ~~~ You can’t help but grin upon entering this joint: it used to be a shoe repair shop, and still has accents of the previous trade dotting the décor. You can amuse yourself with Sudoku and the checker boards on the tables, a mixture of pillowed benches and an assortment of café chairs give this place that funky, casual, neighborhood café appeal. The sounds of Swing, Judy Garland and Sinatra were the music of the day. Scrumptious looking baked goods greet you at the counter: bagels, donuts, pound and coffee cakes- along with parfaits, fruit, sandwiches and salads. A long, strong list of beverages from coffees to cider also looked enticing. I thought I wanted eggs for breakfast that day, but that isn’t a menu item at Shoe’s. An enthusiastic diner recommended the bagel and lox sandwich, and (who we thought was) another patron directed us to the Leesburg Restaurant for a solid sit down breakfast. So we walked out, only to return minutes later after deciding that bagels and lox sounded good, and… something about our first impression drew us back in- we simply wanted to eat there! What a delicious decision it turned out to be. The coffee is made with 100% organic Fair Trade coffee and espresso beans, and what a difference that makes: my cappuccino (with a light shot of vanilla) was rich with flavor and blanketed with the stiffest, creamiest foam I have ever seen on a capp in LoCo! (I should have taken a picture of my milk foam mustache- the Boy would have found it to be hilarious.) The sesame bagel was large enough to share. They are freshly baked & delivered daily, and you can tell at first bite that they’re made with premium ingredients. The Man is from NYC, and knows from a good bagel! The salmon was soft, nicely smoked, not too fishy, and among the best I’ve ever had. Add to that the generous chunk of smooth cream cheese, a thick slice of fresh, juicy tomato, slivers of red onion and a liberal sprinkle of capers- you have the perfect bagel and lox.We shared it because we just had to try the iced lemon and poppy seed pound cake. I only had a bite, and luckily it was enough since The Man polished off the cake like it was his last meal. Moist, bursting with flavor, and the perfect accent to my last sips of cappuccino… I highly recommend sharing a slice on your visit here. We’ll definitely be back soon to try the beer and wine- gotta bring our friends- it’s the kind of place you share with others. The service was just so friendly and solicitous- yes, they are new here and aiming to please, but I get the feeling that’s just the level of service that you will always get here. We felt like regulars on our very first visit, and that is a rare feeling that always brings me back. By the way, the guy who told us where to get eggs for breakfast: turns out that it was Ed- the Owner of Shoe’s! That’s a classy move in my book, and just one more reason that we’ll return, because~ Shoes Cup & Cork Club Passes with Flying Colors! 17 North King Street Leesburg, VA http://shoescupandcorkclub.com SHOES SPECIALS: MONDAYS- 1/2 price appetizers TUESDAYS- 1/2 price wine with entree order WEDNESDAYS- $9.99 pasta special (I've had the Penne with scallops and mussels in a tomato cream sauce...
