Church Street Cellar~ Wine Bistro PDF E-mail
I’ve told so many people about Church Street Cellars that I may have actually believed that I COMPLETED this review weeks ago! Ok that was a lame excuse for taking so long to write this review...

Just when you think there are no original experiences to be had, along comes a cool concept that slides the Happy back into Happy Hour… This is a must try for “Wineaux” within 30 miles of Vienna, VA. In a nutshell- it’s a tasting bar. There are 32 wines of various varietals, a range of aromas and a bevy of bodies! A bevy also applies to the 20-, 30- and 40-somethings that are milling about, sampling wine and savoring an exquisite menu that sets this place in a class of its own.

It would be cruel to go into detail about the lamb medallions that I devoured- the menu changes regularly and features a small but mighty variety of small plates and dishes to pair with all types of wine. Additionally, the lamb so savory, tender and perfectly seasoned with fresh herbs… I shouldn’t torture you with details. What I will share with you is that every plate that left the kitchen was beautifully presented, and each returned with nothing but a garnish remaining!

As if the original, gourmet menu alone isn’t enough of a reason to stop in, the big attraction is the “emonatics.” This system allows you to taste wine by the ounce, half pour or full pour. You slide the card they’ll hand you into the machine and it’s charged based on the size you choose. I browsed for awhile before making selections; descriptive summaries of each wine help you decide where to start. The wines are organized from light body to heavy body, and go from the lightest Pinot Gris to the deepest Shiraz. I tasted my way from Oregon to Australia with a few stops in Europe… all at a very reasonable price!

Not the least of the impressive facets here is the atmosphere. It truly appears to be a brick wine cellar that someone moved a few tables and a granite bar into… warm, welcoming- the ambience actually creates your thirst for wine!
Just go. Get off the computer, throw on some jeans, put a few bucks in your pocket, and GO. Take a few buddies, make it a date night, or even go alone~ you’ll make new friends- I did! But don’t miss out on this one of a kind experience because~
