Every suburban neighborhood should have 3 things...

... an excellent café to start our day with a delicious coffee and pastry, a cool neighborhood bar & grill to hang out with friends, and a distinguished wine shop so we can impress our friends when we throw a dinner party. Café Rumi- yep. Foster’s Grille- yep. And WineSmith- why, yes- yes we have that too!
Neil, the friendly and knowledgeable proprietor of WineSmith sees less of me lately since wine and crutches don’t mix. But we are very loyal to his shop for many reasons- one of which, is Sarah Powell. After we explained what we liked to drink, he led us down the right path to what is now a staple in our household- a Pinot Noir we can imbibe with absolutely no accompaniment- it’s that full bodied, alive, and delightful. I’m no sommelier and have no credentials to rate wine, but I know what I like to drink- and if someone can accurately translate my ramblings into “here-you’ll enjoy this!” then they have won my business forever. We’ve also appreciated WineSmith’s unique beer selection- after all, I’m not opening Sarah Powell next to my burger or wings! They carry new and different beers that you rarely find anywhere else, and they change the selections regularly. It’s not just that Neil’s team leads my husband and me to undiscovered wines that may suit our palates, it’s that they also carry wines we like but haven’t been able to find in other places. I’m not talking about “two buck chuck” like my Barefoot Pinot Grigio, or our regular favorites like Dr. Thanisch Riesling, and I don’t mean $60.00 bottles that we rarely buy or are even impressed by. WineSmith has a diverse and interesting selection of wines in every price range. We’ve seen some familiar faves from California or Germany along with little known yet powerfully alluring wines from South Africa or Greece that will leave you wondering- why haven’t I tried a Red Zinfandel until now?
WineSmith has also been a generous neighbor. As a sponsor of Broadlands Live! 2007, concert goers were offered special discounts, and Neil had plenty of wine accessories and distinctive snacks to complete the experience. Their newsletter alerts you to the various tastings, dinners and events- I wish it linked directly to my Outlook calendar so I wouldn’t miss a thing… I’m sad that I recently missed the Stomp! tasting since I enjoy their varietals at Café Panache.
WineSmith creates gorgeous gift baskets and have innovative wine accessories as well- I always leave there with more than I need, but with everything I want! I’ve popped in for a quick bottle and caught the tail end of a terrific tasting, so you never know what an impromptu visit might yield. So “Wineaux” or no- special occasion sips or nightly nips, gift shopping or restocking your own wine rack- visit WineSmith & discover something new….
