I started this website as a way to draw attention to Ashburn’s “Hidden Gems” in all industries. One would be hard pressed to find a business that fits that bill better than Mangino’s- tucked away off of Loudoun County Parkway, and a menu filled with the edible equivalent of fine jewels…. ~ Anyone who thinks they’ve already found the best pizza in Ashburn needs to pay a visit to Mangino’s before making that call. I have several solid local faves for pizza, so it was a tough call not to just visit one of them for a reliable, delicious slice. But The Man, The Boy and I decided it was time to try something different and we took a chance on Mangino’s. It’s not hard to find if you know where to look: just off of LoCo Parkway, not far from the post office. It’s small, unobtrusive and comprised of a simple deli counter in front of an open kitchen. The moment you open the door, you know you’ve made a good decision- the rich, warm, garlicky, doughy smells of fresh baked Italian specialties immediately surround you. The menu is so diverse, it’s tough to choose: gourmet pies, standard pizza favorites, ziti, eggplant and chicken parms, calzones, strombolis, Boar’s Head hot and cold subs—on and on and on. The Boy chose Wings and Fries- he’s pretty much the wing judge of the household since The Man and I aren’t big wing-eaters. I could tell by the silence and sauce coating the boy from ear-to-ear and thumb-to-thumb that he was thoroughly enjoying his wings. They looked very meaty and juicy; The Boy said they were "mmm MMM tasty" and spicy. At the risk of getting my finger bitten off, I did not reach into his plate to try one- we’ll just have to take his word for it… The Man went with the Chicken Parmesan Calzone; it oozed with ricotta & mozzarella cheeses, was stuffed with juicy chicken, and the best part: a crisp, delicious crust that wasn’t doughy or undercooked in the slightest. The Meatball Calzone was my weapon of choice- well- actually, The Boy wanted it AND the wings, so I ordered it so he could taste both of his top picks. No regrets- it was fabulous. Countless tender meatballs, ricotta & mozzarella cheese all tossed with that garlicky sauce nestled inside of that perfect crust- WOW. I think the best part was watching our bubbling calzones roll out of the oven- the anticipation was palpable! Ok- it's the second best part- number one is that first cheesy bite that This place is a must try. No frills- just superb, hot, fresh, “delizioso” New York Italia and deli specialties. Boar’s Head deli meats, dough made fresh daily- it’s no wonder that~ Mangino’s Passes with Flying Colors! 21760 Beaumeade Cir.
