Rosemary’s Thyme~ Mediterranean Kitchen |

A charming name for an even more charming bistro, and the SAM- Service, Atmosphere & Menu? Simply spectacular.
This special café tucked in a nondescript strip mall off of Route 29 is truly a hidden jewel, and worth turning into a regular stop whenever you are in or near Centerville. Simple, artistic murals adorn the walls, warm lighting flatters your skin, and the comfortable décor all welcome you before someone arrives with a bright smile to show you to a table. I enjoy dining here alone as well because the people-watching in the strip mall is always interesting!
The service on each time I visit has been beyond expectations. Kind, knowledgeable waitresses have always kept my beverages refilled, checked in at just the right time after serving the meal, solicitous and efficient without hovering or imposing. Their suggestions have always been excellent, but then again, I don’t think anything comes out of that kitchen without meeting extremely high standards.
My service this week from Laurel was notably first-rate. I thought she may have actually been a family member or had part-ownership in Rosemary’s Thyme based on the pride with which she spoke of the place! I was impressed by her familiarity with the menu and operating practices- my dining companion asked about the soups of the day for the week, and Laurel explained that it’s decided each morning based on the fresh ingredients in the fridge that day. I noticed the other waitress was just as personable- everyone there seemed to be genuinely pleased to be there, which was indeed contagious to us, their customers.
The entrée presentation is always neat and attractive- fresh herbs sprinkled atop the soups, evenly portioned toppings on their Pides and Pizzas make every bite just as flavorful and the one before it and the one to come. This is perfect timing for this review since their soups are an absolute must-sip. Their butternut squash soup embodies the taste of a brisk hike on a crisp autumn day: smooth, lively, warm and comforting. Its golden color matches the leaves of the season- the herbs fill your senses with the outdoorsy essence of fall.
The Shish dishes- whether you choose lamb or chicken- are divine. Seasoned with traditional Turkish herbs and spices, and in healthy portions over fluffy rice kissed with butter, with a side of steamed vegetables- the Shishes are guilt-free decadence! I can’t forget the light as air fresh bread that precedes your meal- accompanied a light virgin olive oil with a healthy dollop of olive tapenade, it’s irresistible. And yet I still find a way to clean my plate after 3 pieces of bread… sigh. There’s so much more on the menu to enjoy- but I want to hear about those items from you.
The authenticity of their dishes is without question, the freshness is impossible to overlook, and the flavors will beckon you to return again and again. They have a second location in Dupont Circle, and though I’ve never been, I’m fairly certain it is also worth a visit. Find a reason to go to Centreville, and stop in for a meal that will satisfy you on so many levels, because~ Rosemary’s Thyme Passes with Flying Colors!

Comment by Aphioni on 2009-12-02 19:21:30 An update to this review- wnet today for lunch and had the most delicious Celery Soup- chicken broth based, thickened with potatoes and a spicy Turkish sausage- one of the most satisfying, wholesome tasting soups I've ever devoured. The Boy added his two cents: "The soup is amazing." He's a boy of few words. Add this to your list of must try local restaurants, Rosemary's Thyme is definitely something special. |
