The pleasant surprises you discover when you try a new place that you’ve never heard of…
When Fruit Flowers opened in the Broadlands Village Center, I was pleased but confused- wasn’t there ANOTHER place that made centerpieces out of fruit? What’s different about THIS place? I figured I’d check it out when the opportunity presented itself.This opportunity came when a friend became ill, I joined in with others who care about her to get a Fruit Flowers bouquet for her and her family to enjoy.
This unassuming, friendly, reasonably priced place was absolutely delightful. They had a lovely arrangement already prepared, so I went with it since it had everything I wanted- um- fresh fruit that looked like flowers! While they wrapped and customized the arrangement for our under-the-weather buddy, I chatted amicably with Tricia, the president of Fruit Flowers.
I learned that Fruit Flowers is a small franchise and the original company that created centerpieces out of fresh fruit, blooming in 1984. I found out that the Ashburn store is owned by a very nice family from Leesburg, the McAlisters. And, I discovered that their chocolate covered strawberries are juicy and deeeelicious! Oh, you haven’t lived until you’ve had fresh berry dripping with warm freshly melted chocolate…
The McAlisters actively support many Loudoun County schools and community programs. The run their business with that smiling, friendly, never-too-busy to provide small-town customer care that I truly appreciate. The arrangements are artfully done and really DO look like flowers! We also bought some chocolate covered bing cherries for ourselves- after all- why should my friend have ALL the goodies? Dark and milk chocolate wrapped around these sweet cherries make a decadent treat, and pair well with a robust Syrah/Cab Franc blend. Or a glass of milk if it’s before 5pm…
Bottom line- think again before just bringing flowers or a fruit salad to a party. Fruit Flowers creates affordable, sweet, juicy centerpieces that will delight guests and make kids think fruit is cool to eat! You’ll enjoy the attention you receive as a customer and the quality of the produce you’ll receive, because~
